TOPIC:
Tonight is the night! It is our first meeting of 2026 and we will start by collecting any library exhibit pieces that members are able to bring. If you are still working on them, there is a little time left and we can arrange to pick them up from the artist outside the regular meeting time, but we hope to be able to display them for our own members at the meeting and have the artist give the piece an introduction.
After the presentations, we'll jump into an exploration of Neuland script. Mollie has done the research and will walk us through the 26 bold letters that Rudolf Koch created in 1923 by cutting them out of paper before turning them into type. Unlike many of the styles we use, Neuland was created with differences baked into the style and many great calligraphers have in turn made it their own as well.
We're going to focus on the basic forms, learn a little bit about letter proportions, and jump right into composition by employing it on our birthday cards for the year.
It should be a packed meeting, all levels welcome. Please join us next week for a jump into the new year!
*This class will be available via Zoom, starting at 7pm. Please register if you plan on attending remotely, and we will provide instructions for the zoom link*
